Water-Methanol Injection for the VW Golf IV 1.9 TDI
(ARL unit-injector, 96 kW / 130 hp)
The ARL engine in the Golf IV (1.9 TDI with unit-injector / Pumpe-Düse injection) is one of the most popular diesel tuning engines across central Europe — robust hardware, generous response to software stages up to 170+ hp. At moderate tuning stages the diesel combustion shifts into a hotter regime: exhaust gas temperatures above 800 °C under full load stress the turbocharger, manifold and DPF (where fitted). Water-methanol injection is one of the most effective levers on a TDI to bring EGT back down and reclaim thermal reserve — while simultaneously adding power.
Recommended configuration for the Golf IV TDI: We recommend the Stage 2 TD variant — purpose-built for turbodiesel, with variable boost-pressure-dependent injection. Stage 1 TD is the lean entry option for OEM software.
Effect in numbers: −100 to −300 °C exhaust gas temperature under full load (diesel-specific, much higher EGT reduction than on petrol engines), additional +5 to +15 hp from the water-methanol effect itself, reduced soot formation, significantly higher thermal reserve for turbocharger and exhaust system.

Boost Cooler vs. Boost Cooler ProLine
Standard Boost Cooler kits ship with red pressure hoses and push-on fittings. The ProLine variant uses stainless steel braided lines and AN fittings - motorsport-grade pressure resistance, higher heat tolerance.
