Water Injection for the Porsche 911 991 Turbo S
(3.8 BiTurbo, 412 kW / 560 hp)

The 3.8 L flat-six in the 991 Turbo S delivers 560 hp from twin variable-turbine-geometry turbochargers — one of the highest specific outputs in the Porsche lineup before the switch to the 3.7 L 992. The rear-engine architecture means short intake paths but high intake air temperatures right at the intake valves under full load. In the tuning scene, 991 Turbo S builds with Stage 1 software reach 650+ hp without issue; hardware-supported setups (intercoolers, downpipes, larger turbos) push 700–800 hp into realistic range. Water injection is the established path to EGT control in this league.

Recommended configuration for the 991 Turbo S: We recommend the Stage 3 DI variant. Porsche DI engines require the DI-specific Boost Cooler controller with fuel-rail pressure mapping and Hyper-Sonic nozzle setup — fast pressure ramp-up is decisive for correct injection mass at the rapid load transitions of the VTG turbo setup. Stage 2.5 Power-Max is the leaner alternative for moderate software stages up to ~650 hp.

Effect in numbers: −40 to −60 °C intake air temperature under full load, +10 to +25 % power gain depending on stage, reduced knock-control retard, significantly higher thermal reserve under sprint loads — decisive on an AWD sports car repeatedly delivering full launch power from standstill.

Boost Cooler vs. Boost Cooler ProLine

Standard Boost Cooler kits ship with red pressure hoses and push-on fittings. The ProLine variant uses stainless steel braided lines and AN fittings - motorsport-grade pressure resistance, higher heat tolerance.
