Water Injection for the BMW 340i xDrive F30
(B58, 240 kW / 326 hp)
The B58 inline-six in the 340i is the successor to the proven N55 and is regarded as one of the most tuning-stable premium six-cylinders of the last decade. Single twin-scroll turbocharger, closed-deck aluminium block — Stage 1 software tunes deliver 400+ hp without issue. Under sustained load (towing, alpine highway pulls, track days), the B58 hits a thermal ceiling where water injection provides the decisive headroom.
Recommended configuration for the 340i: We recommend the Stage 3 DI variant. The B58 is a pure direct-injection engine, so the Boost Cooler injection requires the DI-specific controller with fuel-rail pressure mapping and Hyper-Sonic nozzles for fast pressure ramp-up. Stage 2.5 Power-Max is the right pick for moderate tuning stages up to ~380 hp; Stage 1 is sufficient for daily driving with OEM software.
Effect in numbers: −40 to −60 °C intake air temperature under full load, +10 to +25 % power gain depending on stage, significantly reduced knock-control retard in upper RPM ranges, higher thermal reserve under towing and track-day loads.

Standard Boost Cooler kits ship with red pressure hoses and push-on fittings. The ProLine variant uses stainless steel braided lines and AN fittings - motorsport-grade pressure resistance, higher heat tolerance.
